Hi jaomat,

Batteries ship to the stores with only a third of a charge.  That's why it is so important that you run it until its completely dead the first time and then charge it.  If you have to charge it every three hours I would bet you didn't run it down completely the first time.  Here are a few settings to change to increase battery life.

1. Set the screen brightness really low.
2. Turn off wifi when you aren't using it.
3. Make sure all unused apps are properly closed and aren't running unnecessarily.

If CC made a suggestion about your problem, then at least try it out.  Just because you "don't feel like it" doesn't mean the problem will fix itself.  Be proactive!  Hope this helps!

Hey hey hey... Im here to tell you that yes the battery life is poor because every app runs and syncs in the background. 1st thing is 1st... GET THE APPLICATION KILLER. It will save your battery life. I did some research and some users say their battery life has INCREASED by 4 more hours. There is a free app called "Advanced Task Killer". I have it on mine and it works great. my battery was dead after 4 hours. thats 4 hours of just being on, that doesn't count me talking on it. I also tweaked my my auto sync functions. Most syncs are set to every 1 or 2 hours. I set mine to once a day or every 8 hours for others. That helped a lot as well. Tasks that run about every hour or 2 are  your email, facebook, stocks, news links, etc... I suggest you change your sync up frequency.

Since you mentioned you did not feel like doing much a good idea would be to just get the Task Killer. It does it all for you. you just have to select the button "Kill Apps Listed". Its great! Shocked

I just wanted to mention that I installed an application killer, set only my gmail to auto/background sync, and cut down screen brightness and use of wi-fi and my battery life has almost doubled...no joke!

One thing i've noticed is that when I first got it, the battery was lasting about an hour before it died. This also had alot to do with it was a new phone for me and was constantly checking out apps and downloading more. But since I stopped playing with it all the time, the battery will last me an entire work day plus some hours into the evening before havng to charge it.

Agreed.  The application killer has doubled my battery life during a given day.  But that's with little talk time and not 10 hours per day of "playing." haha

I can't say enough about the app "Juice Defender"

Even with heavy use, I can get from morning to bed time on one charge.

The way it works is it turns off the phone features (wifi, GPS, syncing) only turning it on for say, 2 min every hour so that it can sync. It also disables them when your screen is off, turning them back on when you turn your screen on.

i just got my phone today. traded my old mytouch in for it.. i let it run all the way down and then charged it fully or almost fully. it only lasted me about four hours as well. I guess i will be dl'ing the task killer etc.. they need to come out with a battery pack or just a flat out longer living battery for this phone. you would think that they would've done it by now.

On my old G1 I had to use the task killer to make sure that programs weren't hogging up all my batter life, but on the mt3gs I have not had to do this. The main three things that kill the battery on the slide are; the screen, the WiFi, and the biggest hog: the GPS!
What I did was put widgets on my desktop that allowed me to turn on and off the WiFi, the Bluetooth, and the GPS as well as see their status (on or off).
To do this follow these steps:
1. On the home screen press the menu button with the three horizontal lines.
2. Press "add to home" plus sign icon. (You may get a message saying "You home screen is full", make sure that you have room for three icons, one for Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS)
3. Click Widget.
4. Scroll down to "settings" and click it.
5. You will see widgets for; Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, GPS, Mobile Network, Wi-Fi. Select the GPS and it will be added to your desktop.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 adding a widget for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as well.

This makes it really easy to see if your GPS and WiFi are on and allows you to turn them off when not in use.

I recommend that you only have the WiFi on when you want to surf the net and you are in range of a WiFi access point that you can connect to. Having WiFi on all the time WILL drain the battery because it is always searching for access points.
Same thing with the GPS. Keep it off unless you are planning to use the Navigation or My Location in maps.

After installing these widgets I have had no problem with battery life. I just charge my mt3gs every night when I am sleeping.

Hope this was useful!  Cheesy

The phone does not have poor battery life especially when compared to the G1. The key is to run the phone down until it will not come back on. Leave the phone off and plug it in to charge it. DO NOT turn the phone back on until you see the green light come on. I know it's tempting but don't do it. Now your battery should be calibrated. You should do this a few times a year actually.

Also, Mugen Power makes an 1800Mhz batter for this phone now. I highly recommend them as they should get you at least 50% more charge if not more.

I looked on the mugen power site and did NOT see one for the Mytouch slide 3g. Only for the regular mytouch.

which uses more power? WiFi or 3G?

Generally speaking I was told that wifi uses less power in general than 3G, but perhaps I was misled?  when I'm at home (where I have a wifi network) I turn off 3G and turn on wifi. should I turn wifi off and run 3g instead (when I'm not on the web)?

is there a fast way (or app) to switch between 3G (WCDMA) and GSM (Edge)?  right now i have to goto Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode. too many steps

i've seen 1500mah batteries for the 3g slide on ebay, but I'm reluctant to try without reading reviews.

I'm pretty sure wifi uses more power.  If you utilize some of the tips here, you'll definitely notice a big difference in the battery life.  I can't stress enough how important the initial battery conditioning is to the life of the battery.  RE your reluctance, I'm in the same boat.  Even getting a third party charger was tough for me..
